History and Purpose of Cupping Therapy

Despite a recent increase in popularity, cupping is not a new practice. It was originally used by the ancient Chinese, Egyptian, and Middle Eastern cultures. It is a form of alternative pain management that is performed by placing cups on the skin, to create suction.

Today, cupping therapy is used to relieve pain, promote relaxation, enhance blood flow, and ease inflammation. Request a call back to learn more about cupping.

MediCupping to Treat Your Aches and Pain

The suction of the skin to the cup's surface increases hydration and blood flow to the body's healing tissues. This can speed recovery for some injuries and ailments.

While cupping therapy originally utilized standard cups, Shannon at Shannon McLean Physical Therapy can treat your aches and pains with ACE MediCupping technology. MediCupping is the procedure of attaching vacuum-controlled cups to the affected areas of pain. Using the MediCupping vacuum provided by ACE, we can treat your injuries with suction or magnetic cups to enhance your healing process.

MediCupping can be a beneficial treatment for conditions such as chronic neck pain, lower back pain, and fibromyalgia. To begin your ACE MediCupping treatment, request a call back today!

MediCupping Techniques

Cupping therapy works by creating negative pressure on your skin, which helps increase hydration and blood flow to body tissues. Cupping can sometimes be described as a tissue lubrication technique. Cupping therapy relaxes muscles, releases trigger points, improves lymphatic flow, increases local circulation, and releases scar tissue adhesion.

There are different forms of cupping techniques including static and dynamic. Static cupping implies that the cups will be put on your tissue and left in one place. Dynamic cupping could mean the cups will be glided across areas of your body or the application of cups to one area while you move and/or stretch.

Shannon at Shannon McLean Physical Therapy currently offers traditional cupping and can also utilize an ACE MediCupping device, which uses magnetic cups or vacuum cups to treat your body. MediCupping allows specific and reproducible control over the amount and force of suction.

Throughout the course of your cupping treatment, you will have access to strength and stretching exercises and massages. Request a call back today for your service!
